All NBISD fourth grade students were given the opportunity to tour the Sophienburg Museum and Heritage Village thanks to funding provided by the NBISD Education Foundation during the spring semester. Along with tours, special hands-on activities were planned for students from Carl Schurz Elementary, Seele Elementary and Memorial Intermediate.
2008 Distinguished Alumni
In 2004 the Education Foundation established the Distinguished Unicorn Alumni Award to present to New Braunfels High School graduates who have demonstrated leadership, outstanding moral character, and empathy toward others in their personal and professional lives, whether acting as mentors, role models, business or professional leaders, or civic volunteers.

During its annual fundraiser on January 18 at the Historic Seekatz Opera House, members of the NBISD Education Foundation announced the 2008 Distinguished Alumni. Honored were Merritt and Iris Schumann, Maurice and Charlene Fischer, David W. Hartmann, Jeff and Denise Mund and Tim Zipp. The event raises money each year to support teaching grants in the district.
