1. TEKS to be covered: 6.1 A, B, C; 6.2 A; 6.3 B, C; 6.4 A; 6.5 B, C; 6.6 B, C

2. Starting Point Topic:
Theory: Reading music
Playing: play/read music, centering sounds, steady sounds, Concert Bb, C, D, Eb, F notes

Other: Percussion: add bells; brass--lip slurs start

3. Week 2 Topic:
Theory: Articulation; counting whole, half, quarter rhythms,
Playing: work on releases; playing “through” the notes and rests

4. Week 3 topic:
Theory: New Notes: Concert A and G; rest counting; 3/4 time; phrasing
Playing: playing new notes Aconcert and G concert


5. Week 4 topic:
Theory: Key signatures and keyboard introduction
Playing: continue critical listening skills. articulation

6. Week 5 Topic:
Theory: dotted half rhythms; enharmonics
Playing: technical exercises

7. Week 6 topic:
Theory: New note: Concert Ab
Play: counting chart, hand out concert music

8. Major Projects or grades:
Playing tests will be the majority of grades for this six weeks.

9.TAKS preparation contribution, if any:
Students begin to use higher order thinking skills (specifically toward math). Algebraic concepts such as time and key signatures will be worked on.
