| Make sure the music store you purchase or rent
your instrument from: |
- offer maintenance service and repairs during the instrument's
warranty period.
- make instruments available to you on a rental-purchase
agreement.
|
Rental and/or Purchase Agreement: |
- is a plan designed to give your child the opportunity
to begin an instrument with only a small initial investment.
- can give your child the advantage of a brand
new instrument if you so desire. (Used instruments can also be put on
the rental plan)
- allows the student to have the instrument and
mouthpiece as recommended by the NBISD Band Directors.
- allows the instrument to be returned (within
time) without further obligation.
|
| Purchasing instruments from companies: |
- You are free to purchase an instrument from any
source.
- There are brands of instruments available
for less money; however, they may be inferior in quality
of workmanship and materials.
- The store you deal with should have a repair
shop and be able to service the instrument after you purchase it.
- The recommended mouthpiece should be included.
(An unsatisfactory mouthpiece can be a detriment to a student's progress).
|
| Regarding used instruments: |
- Care must be taken not to purchase an instrument whose
condition would be a stumbling block to your child. It is important
to consult with an NBISD band director concerning the condition
of any instrument before you buy it.
- If you decide to look for a used instrument,
we ask that you take our recommended instrument list along with
you to serve as a guide.
- Remember, it is the brand name, not the age of
the instrument that is important (provided the instrument
is in good playing condition).
|
| School-Owned Instruments |
- The following instruments are school-owned due to the
expensive nature of the instrument:
Oboe
Bassoon
Bass
Clarinet
French
Horn
Euphonium
Tuba
- Students who are selected to play one of these instruments
will be required to pay a yearly use fee of $20.00.
- Students will need to purchase mouthpiece/supplies
for school-owned instruments.
